Students continued work on their calculations and statistical analysis associated with their Density Lab (Lab 3) data and finalized their reports. We also reviewed content from the first unit, in preparation for tomorrow's unit test.
HW: Study for tomorrow's exam; bring your textbook & headphones to class. We discussed statistical analysis tools for use with laboratory data...assessing accuracy with percent error, precision with standard deviation, and determining whether or not outliers can be justifiably omitted by applying a Q-test to the outlier data points. The calculations and post-lab questions needed for Lab 3 were discussed and questions about the Unit 1 Mastering Chemistry were also addressed.
Lab 3 - Density Lab
Students measured the density of various solids and liquids using a variety of methods...water displacement, calculation of volume from geometric formula, and use of a pycnometer. Tomorrow, we will work on a statistical analysis of the plastic density data. HW - Complete all mass, volume and density calculations. Remember to show your work for all calculations...original equation, substitution/rearrangement, and final answer (with proper sig figs & units). Each calculation should have all three of these sections associated with it. |
This area will contain an overview of what was discussed/performed each day in class. Archives
