We practiced the ions for Monday's quiz on sets 1 & 2. Students can/should use their flashcards or the Quizlet deck below to help prepare for this quiz. (if using the embedded deck below, please note that the deck contains many more ions than are on Monday's quiz...students should click on "Options" and then select the "Starred" terms for study.)
We continued/finished the POGIL activity on Molecular Geometry, and reviewed the shapes/bond angles that students will be held accountable for...linear, trigonal planar, tetrahedral, trigonal pyramid, bent, octahedral and square planar. The PhET simulation "Molecule Shapes" (embedded below) and be used to help students review/self-test the relationship between bonding/non-bonding electron domains and their resulting geometries. (Note: remember, that the bond angles shown are "ideal" bond angles...that is, they do not take into account the additional repulsion caused by lone pair non-bonding electron domains. Shapes that have lone pairs on the central atom will have bond angles smaller than those identified by the simulation)
