Lots to cover today...first, wrap-up of lab equipment orientation and Bunsen Burner Introduction. See video below for a refresher on the parts of a Bunsen burner and how to operate it safely.
Tuesday will be the Lab Safety Test and the Lab Equipment Identification Test, as well as an opportunity to complete your Bunsen burner practical. If you would like to practice over the weekend, first download the ExamView Test Player Program using the link below, and also the Lab Equipment Review Question Pool Test Files...you may be asked to login to your Office365 account. Remember, it's your mounties.k12.pa.us email address to login:
Test Player Installers (Must install this first!) Lab Equipment Review Test File: Once downloaded, should be opened in the ExamView Test Player; presented in 10 question sets...fresh set each time you open the file. Lab notebooks were also distributed and a discussion of how to setup lab reports occurred. Please login to EDpuzzle to view the Lab Report Orientation video created by one of last year's AP Chemistry students.
We continued our discussion of lab safety, including the importance of eye protection and how to operate a fire extinguisher (see videos below). We also began our orientation to lab equipment. There will be an assessment on lab safety & lab equipment identification on Tuesday, 9/5.
Below is a video I like to show...a good summary of lab safety in a cinema-style presentation. Lots of parallels to the information found in our safety contract.
Students submitted their Summer Assignments and took their Element Symbols & Common Ions Quizzes today. We discussed the syllabus and test schedule (tentative dates are already posted to the Google calendar) and looked at working in a team environment. The rest of the week looks like this:
